Multicore and Parallel Computing

Developer and Business Community

Hello. I am new to parallel architectures. I want to know what is 64 bits in the IA64 architecture.
Is it the data bus, address bus, etc?

Thanks in advance...

Hi abhi,

IA-64 is a 64 bits instruction used in the Itanium microprocessors. However, these microprocessors are used in high end servers.
AMD64 and EMT64-T (also known as x86-64) is a 64 bits extension instruction set used in x86-32 compatible microprocessors, like AMD Athlon 64 X2, AMD Phenom, Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core 2 Quad, Intel Core i7...
IA-64 instruction set is not compatible with x86-64. They are two different 64 bits instruction set.
